The Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon's High School Summer Research Program is available to Grade 11 students currently enrolled in a high school in British Columbia and the Yukon. Now in its 14th year, this program is designed to motivate students with top grades and a strong interest in biology and/or medicine to consider a career in cardiovascular research.
During the month of July, students are invited to spend 3 ½ weeks working in the laboratory of one of the Foundation's funded researchers. Students also participate in a wide range of activities related to cardiovascular health. Some examples include:
The impact of this program is long lasting. Many participants go back to educate others in their schools and respective communities; many volunteer at their local Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon offices. Participating in this program helps the students to understand why fundraising for vital heart and stroke research is so important.
